Terms of Use

These Terms of Use form a legal agreement between you (the visitor) and the Snow Day Predictor Canada editorial team (we, us, our). By using any part of snowdaypredictorcanada.com you confirm that you have read these terms and accept them. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use the site.

We may update these terms from time to time — for example, when we add a new feature, change a third-party data provider, or respond to feedback from Canadian readers. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when the most recent revision took effect. We will not email you about minor edits, so please check back before relying on any specific clause. Your continued use of the site after a revision counts as acceptance of the updated terms.

The predictor, all editorial content, and the website as a whole are provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE.” We make no warranty — express, implied, or statutory — that any prediction will be correct, that the site will be available without interruption, or that any specific result will be returned for your postal code or city.

Snow day forecasts are probabilistic. A 70% probability means we believe there is roughly a seven-in-ten chance of closure based on the inputs we evaluate — it does not mean schools will close. We cap every prediction at 95% on purpose, because we never want to imply false certainty about a weather-driven decision that is made by a human superintendent at 5:30 in the morning.

Always verify school closures with your local school board, your transportation consortium, or Environment and Climate Change Canada before making a decision that depends on the forecast. That includes whether to send your child to school, whether to drive to work, whether to schedule a medical appointment, and any other choice with real-world consequences.

To the maximum extent permitted by Canadian law, Snow Day Predictor Canada, its editorial team, its contributors, and its data providers are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site or any decision you make based on a prediction. That includes — without limitation — missed classes, missed work, missed appointments, transportation choices, property damage, personal injury, or any other loss.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable Canadian consumer-protection legislation. Where such legislation applies, our liability is limited to the minimum permitted by that legislation.

The Snow Day Predictor Canada name, the logo, the visual design of the site, and the editorial copy on every province, city, methodology, and guide page are our intellectual property and protected under Canadian and international copyright law. You may not copy, reuse, or build on this content beyond what is permitted by the “Acceptable use” section above.

The five-factor prediction algorithm, the per-province closure thresholds, the regional weather profiles, the historical event database, and the city coverage notes are all original editorial and engineering work by the Snow Day Predictor Canada team. They are proprietary to us and were assembled by reading school board policies, transportation consortium notices, and Environment Canada documentation across many winter seasons.

Some inputs to the site are third-party data used under each provider’s respective licence — for example, raw weather forecast fields from Open-Meteo and WeatherAPI, and Canadian Forward Sortation Area geocoding from zippopotam.us. Their data remains the property of their respective owners; we attribute them on our methodology page and in the site footer.

If you submit feedback, a correction, a school board update, or any other suggestion to us — by email, by contact form, or through any other channel — you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use that submission to improve the site. We will not publish your name or email address without your permission. You agree not to send us anything you do not have the right to share.

Pages on Snow Day Predictor Canada may display advertising from Google AdSense or a comparable display advertising network. Where we run advertising it is clearly labelled — either with a “Sponsored,” “Ad,” or “Advertisement” marker, or through the standard AdChoices icon supplied by the network.

Advertising does not influence editorial content. We do not accept sponsored predictions, paid forecasts, or paid coverage of specific school boards, transportation consortia, weather products, winter tires, snow blowers, or anything else. The predictor’s output and our editorial content are produced independently of any advertiser relationship.

If you ever see something on the site that looks like a sponsored prediction or paid editorial coverage, please email admin@snowdaypredictorcanada.com — we want to know about it.

We aim for Snow Day Predictor Canada to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility guidelines across every page — including colour contrast, keyboard navigation, screen-reader semantics, and form labelling on the predictor. Accessibility is not a one-time project and we may not always be perfect, so if you encounter something on the site that does not work with your assistive technology, please tell us.

Report accessibility issues to admin@snowdaypredictorcanada.com. Please include the page URL, the assistive technology and browser you were using, and a short description of what went wrong. We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within five business days.

We may update, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of Snow Day Predictor Canada at any time without notice — for example, retiring an old province page, adding a new city, changing a regional threshold to reflect an updated school board policy, or rebuilding the predictor on a new forecast provider.

Outdated content — old province pages, dead links to a school board that has since been merged, references to a deprecated weather model — will normally be redirected to the closest current page or removed entirely. If a URL you previously bookmarked stops working, the most recent equivalent is usually one click away from the navigation or footer.

We may also terminate or restrict access to the site for a specific user or IP address that is in breach of these terms (for example, an automated scraper). We will not refuse service for a personal, non-commercial use of the predictor.

If a court of competent jurisdiction finds that any clause of these terms is unenforceable, illegal, or void, that clause will be removed or limited to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining terms will continue in full force and effect. The failure of either party to enforce any right under these terms on any occasion does not waive that right on any later occasion.
